-- GIGABYTE Extends 2oz Copper PCB Motherboard Range --

-- More models with Ultra Durable 3 technology for lower motherboard temperatures --

Taipei, Taiwan, Feb. 20th, 2009 -GIGABYTE Technology Co., LTD, a leading manufacturer of motherboards and graphics cards today announced that it has extended its 2 oz. Copper PCB range of motherboards to include mainstream through to high-end offerings on both the Intel® and AMD® platforms. When GIGABYTE first announced 2oz copper PCBs, this spec was limited to the Intel P45 and P43 chipset offerings only. Discerning users now have a choice of Intel X58, P45, P43, AMD 790FX, 790X, 790GX, 780G, 770 and NVIDIA® nForce 720D chipset motherboards with 2oz copper PCBs. GIGABYTE motherboards that feature 2oz copper PCBs are the Ultra Durable 3 and Ultra Durable 3 Classis-series that can be recognized by their respective logos.

As the leading motherboard innovator, GIGABYTE first introduced Ultra Durable 3 products in Q3 2008 and is currently still the only vendor to offer the 2oz copper PCB specification on consumer desktop models. The major difference between traditional 1oz copper PCBs and 2oz copper PCBs is that both the Power and Ground layers in the latter enjoy double the amount of copper. This delivers dramatically lower system temperature, improved energy efficiency and enhanced stability under heavy workloads such as overclocking.

Benefits of 2 oz Copper PCBs

Doubling the amount of copper improves heat dissipation efficiency from critical areas of the motherboard such as the CPU power zone due to the heat conducting characteristics of copper. These cooler working temperatures are clearly demonstrated in the above thermal diagrams that compare traditional motherboards with 1oz copper PCBs to Ultra Durable 3 motherboards with 2oz copper PCBs. Note that the two thermal diagrams on the left were taken under fanless conditions while the diagram on the right included a CPU cooler with a fan.

Better Overclocking

Delivering native support for DDR3 2200+ and DDR2 memory up to 1366+ MHz, GIGABYTE 2oz Copper PCB motherboards allow users to reach higher memory frequency at lower voltage; achieving higher memory performance with lower power consumption to run even the most memory intensive applications such as high-definition video and 3D games with ease.

Better Power Efficiency

Increasing the thickness of the motherboard PCB Power layer by using 2 Ounces of Copper allows the electric current to flow with less resistance, enabling more power efficient circuits with lower power loss and less heat generated.

2X Lower Impedance

In addition, doubling the amount of copper lowers the PCB impedance by 50%. Impedance is a measure of how much the circuit impedes the flow of current. The less the flow of current is impeded, the less amount of energy is wasted. For GIGABYTE Ultra Durable 3 motherboards, this means total PCB electrical waste is reduced by 50%, which also means less heat is generated. 2 ounces of copper also provides improved signal quality, providing better system stability and allowing greater margins for overclocking.

Lower EMI

A good PCB circuit layout is the key of controlling EMI emission. GIGABYTE's Ultra Durable 3 Classic design features 2 ounces of copper for ground layers, improves signal integrity and lowers EMI emissions through a very effective ground plane.

Better ESD Protection

2 Ounces of Copper for the Ground layer of the motherboard PCB allows for a more efficient Electro-Static Discharge (ESD) of up to 10%. This helps to better protect the motherboard components against damage caused by static electricity.
