I865PE in Detail

The I865PE chipset is truly the choice for the mainstream, supporting the 800MHz FSB allows you to use the latest Intel Pentium 4 processors and only costing $36US per 1000 units. Dual Channel DDR-400 is supported on the PE which gives you a maximum bandwidth of 6.4GB/s. CSA also makes the appearance on the 865PE to allows the CSA Gigabit Ethernet controller to be added for affordable Gigabit networking. This is all of the major features of the Canterwood accept two.

Springdale does not have the PAT or support for ECC memory. This shows that Intel is moving the I865PE towards the mainstream desktop market rather than the server and workstation market that the I875P is aimed at.

You can pair the I865P with either the ICH5 or ICH5R chipset. This allows you to get the best performance out of their Serial ATA drives along with 8 USB 2.0 ports.
