Springdale in Detail

As mentioned, unlike the Canterwood which has only one MCH, Springdale has three - G, P and PE versions. While there are three different MCH, all three of them support the following common features:

- Hyper Threading Support

- Dual Channel DDR Memory Controller

- Communications Streaming Architecture

All of the I865 chipset variations can be paired with either the ICH5 or ICH5R. While we have stated the features of the ICH5(r) we will give a brief rundown of the features common to both ICH5 variations, listed below:

- 8 USB 2.0 Ports over 4 Controllers

- 2 Serial ATA Ports

- AC'97 2.2 6 Channel Audio

With the introduction of the CSA Networking system, Intel has removed the Pro100 Ethernet controller form the Southbridge. This means that Intel is moving on to Gigabit Ethernet.
