New Pine View Atom will have DX9 graphics
Both the graphics and the memory controller are on the CPU and the new memory controller can support DDR2 800 memory. Nvidia now really has a chance with its Ion and the fact that Intel just licensed SLI for its Smackover X58 reference motherboard, means that there might be an agreement between Intel and Nvidia that will give Ion a chance.
Since we believe that Intel's G45 "DirectX 10" IGP doesn't feature what you'd call good performance, we don't even want to start bashing the 945G, Lakeport-G. Do we need to remind you that Lakeport-G, the 945G is almost four-year-old graphics technology and in the world of graphics, four years is like a century. So, the new Pineview Atom that arrives in late 2009 for dual and early 2010 for single core CPU will have lame and slow graphics, and that's the bottom line.

NVIDIA playing name games again - GeForce GTS 250
"GeForce GTS 250 carries over the same specs and features of 9800 GTX+, and hence the same GPU, memory, board, PCB, and thermal solution. AIC's should be confident in purchasing GPU's, PCB's, and other materials, since the only change is a new VBIOS to implement the new branding"

Computer Graphics Chip Shipments Dive in Q4 '08
GPUs are used in industrial and medical systems, point of sale terminals, kiosks, digital signs, and PCs. And, in the case of over one third of all PCs being shipped today, more than one GPU is being used Total shipments of GPUs for Q4'08 was 72.35 million. During the same quarter last year, 100.5 million GPUs shipped, and in the previous quarter, Q3 '08, 111.26 million units shipped representing a 34% drop quarter to quarter and a -2% drop year over year.
This is the first time Q4 shipments have decreased compared to Q3 since the year 2000.

nVidia rethinking graphics cards
From what we've been told, the new cards are going to look very different and for those that were around a few years ago, this is meant to be something of a blast from the past. Much in the way that Intel went back to its Pentium III roots to create the Core 2 series of processors, Nvidia has taken a long hard look at what it did in the past.
What this means is that we should be seeing much simpler PCB designs from Nvidia in the future with far less components on the graphics cards. Expect the three and four phase power regulation to be a memory of the past, as Nvidia is going for a simple single phase power regulation design.
