T-RAM and GlobalFoundries enter joint agreement
GlobalFoundreis and T-RAM Semiconductor have entered into an agreement. The Agreement is a joint development agreement that centers around T-RAM's Thyristor-RAM embedded memory.
GlobalFoundries is excited (as is to be expected) about this as Gregg Bartlett, Senior Vice President of Technology and R&D at GLOBALFOUNDRIES stated "We are pleased to be jointly developing T-RAM memory for 32nm and 22nm technologies. T-RAM's embedded memory technology shows a great deal of potential for use in low-power, high-performance dense cache applications for advanced technology nodes."
The question now is what and whose advanced technology nodes will this new memory go into. There are still rumors that TSMC cannot get the 40nm process working right. So this could mean more business for GF if the persistent rumors are true. The Deal with T-RAM only makes things more attractive.

DDRdrive X1 SSD hits 300,000 IOPs
If you have been around the computer scene for any length of time you might remember one of the first SSDs out. It was a product that used DDR RAM and ran through a normal SATA port.
DDRdrive LLC, has decided to revisit some of that older technology, but this time instead of using the SATA port they are using a PCI-e X1 connection and they are also using a combination of NAND and DDR Memory.
The new product, called DDRdrive X1 can hit an amazing 300,000+ IOPs and seems perfect for I/O intensive tasks. It is not the greatest performer in read/write speed though; as it can only hit a peak of 250 MB/s read and 150MB/s in writes.

AMD AM3 with DDR3 worth the extra cost?
While the faithful await the AM3, Fudzilla seems to think they will be let down in terms of Price/Performance.
According to Fudo, the AM3 on an AM3 board with the current BIOSes out will not give enough of a performance boost to warrant the extra cost of DDR3. He says that even with tweaks to the BIOSes there will only be a roughly 5% performance gain using an AM3 board over an AM2+.
Does this bode well for AMD? In the end I do not think it will matter. The AM3 CPUs will run happily in an AM2+ board with DDR2. This means that some will buy them and run them in current boards waiting for DDR3 prices to drop.
Others will not buy AMD anyway as they cannot compete performance wise with Intel's current and even last generation CPUs, even if they do have a price advantage.

Intel to add DDR3 support to P45 and G45
Intel's i7 is a performance powerhouse, there is no denying that. However the price premium has hurt its sales and the need to switch out the whole platform is not helping either.
To help combat this Intel is going to continue the Core 2 Duo and Core 2 Quad line until 2011. There will be no new Chipsets but the P45 and G45 will be improved to allow for this extended life cycle.
According to Fudzilla this means improved support for DDR3 on the P45 and the inclusion of DDR3 1066 support and Windows 7 enhancements on the G45.

NVIDIA's 55nm-based GTX 260 to get 1.5GB memory?
A guy called Theo Valich (you'll know him from TG Daily and INQ, etc) has started his own blog and seems to be doing pretty well, just breaking the 50,000 page view mark.
More importantly, his latest blog post discusses the upcoming launch of NVIDIA's new and improved GeForce GTX 260 graphics card based on a 55nm manufacturing die process. Included are pictures from a Chinese website of the new GTX 260 with the new GPU.
Theo goes on with a lot of speculation including that since the new GTX 260 makes use of 14 memory chips, it can support up to 1.5GB of memory. He also goes onto to speculate that the GTX 295 (dual GTX 260 part) could end up coming with a massive 3GB of memory - all speculation remember, anything could happen.
