Patriot launches Viper Xtreme RAM with special heat sink

Shane McGlaun | Oct 20, 2010 11:02 AM CDT

Patriot has been in the memory game for a long time and is one of the names many enthusiasts look to for RAM for their computers. Patriot has announced a new RAM line that is aimed at Intel platform users that offer an interesting heat shield that promises to improve the cooling capacity, which should mean the RAM can be overclocked further than similar RAM using conventional heat sinks.

The new Viper Xtreme heatshield has a copper insert that runs across the DRAM chips that is then covered with an anodized aluminum heatshield. The custom heatshield provides 5% better cooling that an aluminum only heatshield according to Patriot. The RAM will be offered in three kits to start with that are each hand screened and tested in the Patriot labs before they are shipped.

The line includes dual-channel kits in 4GB and 8GB capacity operating at 2000MHz for Intel P55 platforms. Patriot will be launching other kits aimed at the Intel X58 platform user later. The current kit includes an 8GB kit with a pair of 4GB DIMMS at 2000MHz with timings of 9-10-9-27. A 4GB kit with a pair of 2GB modules operates at the same frequencies and timings. Both of the kits have a lifetime warranty.

Patriot expands RAM line for iMac computers

Shane McGlaun | Oct 13, 2010 11:02 AM CDT

When it comes to memory for your computer or AIO it's often cheaper to buy the machine from the maker with the minimum memory inside and then purchase the RAM you want and put it inside the machine once you get it. Many Mac fans out there do this with MacBook notebooks and the iMac AIO computer. Patriot has announced an expansion to its line of memory for the iMac.

Patriot now has some new SODIMM RAM that has been qualified for use inside the iMac AIO machines. The RAM is part of the Patriot Signature line and will be offered in 2GB, 4GB, and 8GB kits. The 2GB kits have a single 2GB NAND, the 4GB kit includes a pair of 2GB modules, and the 8GB kits have dual 4GB modules. Patriot will offer two different kits for users to choose from.

The kits will include 1333MHz kits in 2GB and 4GB capacities. Some 4GB kits and all 8GB kits will be 1333MHz CL9 sticks. "Our Signature Line of SODIMMs for Apple computers provides qualified upgrade options for users of the newest iMac systems" states Les Henry, Vice President of Engineering at Patriot. "Patriot maintains our leadership position through dedicated research and development, qualification and partner relations.
