DX12 title Fable Legends is free-to-play, will have microtransactions

Anthony Garreffa | Dec 24, 2015 12:55 AM CST

One of the first DirectX 12 titles to be released next year will be Fable Legends, with a new leak on Lionhead Studios' game pointing to just how much microtransactions will cost, and what you'll get for your money.

Fable Legends is a free-to-play title, with Lionhead recently delaying the game. The studio didn't realize how big the game was getting, and needed more time to get everything right. The studio explained that the team "working exceptionally hard and we're proud of how far the game has come. We're operating our closed beta 24/7 and have added lots more features, quests, creatures, and heroes to play. Hundreds of thousands of fans have participated in the beta so far, and we can't wait to open it up for all of you to play. To achieve our aspirations for Fable Legends, we've moved our open beta release to spring of 2016".

As for the microtransactions, Fable Legends will offer a 'ton of gold' for $59.99, where you'll receive 12,800 gold. There's also a hundredweight of gold, stone of gold, mark of gold, and finally, a pound of gold - all with varying prices. Lionhead splashes away gamers' issues with a pay-to-win formula for Fable Legends, with the studio explaining "You'll be able to play Fable Legends from beginning to end for free. That means the whole story as it stands, plus any additional quests/storylines we release after launch will all be free".

The new Battlefield could feature co-op play, made by DICE LA studio

Anthony Garreffa | Dec 23, 2015 11:52 PM CST

We know that EA DICE is working on the new Battlefield, but we don't know what Battlefield title we'll get. Will it be Battlefield 5, or will it be something different like Battlefield: Bad Company 3?

Well, it was only earlier this month that DICE's development director Dan Vaderlind took to Twitter saying: "Now that we've shipped Battlefront and a part of the team continues to work on it, I am moving on to another project, the next Battlefield". This was exciting news on its own, with EA CEO Andrew Wilson adding "I have no doubt that DICE LA will be building their game at some point, because it's a really, really passionate group of people".

DICE LA is actually hiring right now, looking for both a singleplayer and multiplayer level designer. The LA-based studio is also on the look out for a senior technical animator, a senior lighter, and a senior concept artist. DICE LA is looking for candidates to "push quality to the next level for an unannounced AAA title". While it doesn't specifically state that it's a new Battlefield game, we have confidence that it is.

Uncharted 4 delayed once again, until April the 26th now

Jeff Williams | Dec 23, 2015 10:16 AM CST

Naughty Dog has done the unthinkable, they've delayed Uncharted 4 again until the 27th of April for the US and the 29th of April in the UK. But the news isn't necessarily all bad either.

Neil Druckmann and Bruce Straley wrote an official statement on the PlayStation Blog, and talked about where the project is and why they've decided to delay the release of one of the most anticipated games in the history of the series. "Essentially, it's because they want to further polish it before it's released to the public."

But hearing the news of having such an anticipated game delayed, once again, isn't easy to take. And it apparently wasn't an easy decision for the co-directors to make either. They want tot show off their most ambitious game just as much as we want to play it, but they don't quite think it's ready for primetime. And thus, they "humbly ask you to wait a bit longer."

Just Cause 3's latest patch for the PC improves memory management

Anthony Garreffa | Dec 22, 2015 11:22 PM CST

The latest v1.021 patch for Just Cause 3 on the PC offers improved memory management, as well as fixing up the stability when you exit to the desktop from the game. The new patch is just 99MB in size.

Avalanche Studios only just released the v1.02 patch for the PC and consoles last week, with the PC patch weighing in at 132MB - but the consoles were slapped with a huge 3GB patch. The v1.02 patch offered improved loading times, performance improvements and more. Avalanche explains the improved stability when exiting to the desktop: "As some of you will be aware, there was an issue that would sometimes cause the game to crash when exiting to desktop. The cause of this issue has been identified and addressed with this update".

The studio explains the memory management improvements: "In addition to fixing the exit to desktop crash, this update also improves Just Cause 3's memory management across a variety of hardware configurations. Some systems will feel this beneficial impact more than others".

Nintendo rumored to show NX backstage at CES 2016

Derek Strickland | Dec 22, 2015 3:34 PM CST

A new rumor suggests that Nintendo will show off its new NX console at a closed session at CES 2016 in Las Vegas.

Nintendo rumored to show NX backstage at CES 2016

So far Nintendo has kept its promise not to release new information about the NX until 2016, leaving the community to piece together details from patents and rumors. Although we've been given clues on what the NX might be, a new rumor circulated by Nintendo Enthusiast claims that Nintendo is inviting third-party developers to show off what the system has to offer. This means we might see a slew of new information release as early as January 2016, even if Nintendo pushes NDA's to attendees.

The publication was also told by a trusted source that the Nintendo NX will be on par with the Xbox One in terms of hardware power. This is an attempt to keep the console at a competitive price point when pitted against Microsoft's Xbox One and Sony's PlayStation 4. The Japanese gaming giant has said in the past that the NX will be "unique and different" and that it'll be truly next-generation in power, however the Xbox One itself is quite limited. Like the Xbox One and PS4, AMD is believed to be making the NX's APU chip.

Oh...Sir! The most glorious game about insulting your friends

Jeff Williams | Dec 22, 2015 9:07 AM CST

Sometimes the indie community has some very innovative stuff to show the world, but not all the time. In this case, a small indie studio comprised of two fine gentlemen in Poland have released the most splendid game ever: Oh...Sir!

This superb example of gaming mastery was devised as part of a game creation event called amJam and was put together in a mere 42 hours. They took the theme they were given, "this parrot is no more" from Monty Python, and ran with it. The result is a game that delights the senses in a most delicate way.

Oh...Sir! pits players in 1v1 combat against each other, letting you construct and hurl cleverly concocted insults using the choices given to you during the round. You take turns and have a limited time to come up with the most adroit insults possible.
