Apple TV+ hit Silo is getting a third and fourth season according to someone who should know

Oliver Haslam | Apr 17, 2024 3:00 PM CDT

The Apple TV+ streaming service has had a ton of hits to call its own since its launch, and while the library it offers might not be as big as that boasted by Netflix or Disney+. it definitely makes up for the lack of quantity with top-notch quality. Silo is one example of a great offering, and while we already knew that there was a second season on the way, we now know there's more to the story than that.

Apple TV+ hit Silo is getting a third and fourth season according to someone who should know

While Apple TV+ hasn't officially confirmed anything yet, star of the show Rebecca Ferguson has told Collider that there will actually be a third and even a fourth season, with the latter two being filmed back to back. That might suggest that the seasons will be released closer together than usual, which will be extremely good news for people who don't want to wait.

The decision to share the Silo story across four seasons is interesting given the fact that the books the show is based on ended after the third. Ferguson told Collider that the ending is already decided and that it'll come at the end of that fourth season. But beyond that, everyone's keeping their cards close to their chest.

Apple TV+ is getting For All Mankind season 5 plus a whole new spinoff series

Oliver Haslam | Apr 17, 2024 2:15 PM CDT

Fans of the hugely popular Apple TV+ series For All Mankind will be pleased to learn that the streamer has announced that it is coming back for a fifth season, and that isn't all. Apple TV+ also confirmed in a press release that it will be launching a new Star City spinoff series as well.

Apple TV+ is getting For All Mankind season 5 plus a whole new spinoff series

For All Mankind has so far managed to hold a 100% Certified Fresh score on Rotten Tomatoes throughout its first four seasons which should be enough to whet the appetite for anyone who is yet to take the show for a spin. It tells the story of an alternate timeline where Russia gets to the moon before the United States and follows how that changed history, including space travel throughout the coming decades.

As for the new Star City show, Apple TV Plus says that it is a robust expansion of the For All Mankind universe and will explore the story from behind the Iron Curtain for the first time. There is currently no published release window for when the new show, or indeed the fifth season of the main For All Mankind storyline will be made available for us to binge-watch, but it's already time to get excited.

TCL's Next Stop Paris is an AI-generated rom-com releasing this summer, watch the trailer now

Kosta Andreadis | Apr 15, 2024 3:02 AM CDT

Chinese smart TV and device maker TCL wants to expand the original content found on its TCLtv+. One of the first productions, streaming this summer, is a new romantic comedy called Next Stop Paris. The title is befitting a movie on the Hallmark Channel or a new Netflix movie starring Lindsay Lohan - it screams rom-com.

TCL's Next Stop Paris is an AI-generated rom-com releasing this summer, watch the trailer now

What makes this notable, and reporting on new rom-coms isn't exactly something we do here at TweakTown, is that it was created with AI. It is a generative AI film, an "AI-Powered Love Story," and the first AI production from TCLtv+ Studios. TCL calls Next Stop Paris "an early experiment bringing tech and creative together in a hybrid entertainment format" using custom AI models and technology from Stable Diffusion.

It looks, well, not great. That might be subjective, but in the case of the first AI rom-com, I'd go as far as to say that's an objective take. The main female protagonist's face changes depending on the shot, and the video has that text-to-video AI look that makes many objects look off. Check it out.

Todd Howard throws a wet blanket on Elder Scrolls TV show, but there's still hope

Jak Connor | Apr 12, 2024 12:17 AM CDT

The new Fallout TV show streaming on Amazon Prime Video is getting very positive praise, leading fans of the Bethesda asking where an Elder Scrolls adaptation is, and if one is currently being made.

Todd Howard throws a wet blanket on Elder Scrolls TV show, but there's still hope

Todd Howard, the director and executive producer at Bethesda Game Studios, and mastermind behind both franchises, appeared on the red carpet and spoke to IGN about a possible Elder Scrolls TV show, which was first mentioned three years ago by Hollywood insider Daniel Ritchman who said Netflix were potentially working on such a show. Howard responded to the question by throwing a wet blanket on any hopes of a secret Elder Scrolls TV show being developed, "there's nothing in the works".

However, there is still hope for one. The Bethesda director, who is also an executive producer on the Fallout TV show, said he never thought a Fallout TV show was going to work until presented with the right idea and person behind the camera. In the instance of the Fallout TV show this person was Christopher Nolan's brother, Jonathan Nolan, the creator of Westworld, Person of Interest, and a writer on Interstellar, The Prestige, and The Dark Knight.

The next Apple TV device could have a camera built in with support for FaceTime and more

Oliver Haslam | Apr 8, 2024 1:15 PM CDT

It's been a good long while since Apple last updated the Apple TV streaming box, with 2022 being the last time that the Apple TV 4K was refreshed. However, there have been a few rumors over the last couple of years that Apple intends to not only launch a new Apple TV but also completely revamp it, adding a camera to the mix for the first time.

The next Apple TV device could have a camera built in with support for FaceTime and more

Apple has of course not confirmed that it is working on a new Apple TV let alone what that new set-top box will have to offer. However, a new report by Bloomberg's Mark Gurman suggests that the new Apple TV could well change the way people use the device moving forward.

According to Gurman, writing in the weekly Power On newsletter for Bloomberg, Apple has discussed automating household functions and offering a revamped Apple TV with a built-in camera. That camera will do a couple of things, starting with the obvious - it will be used to offer FaceTime video calling features as presumably support for third-party apps like Skype and Zoom. But beyond that, things are much more interesting.

Star Wars is finally returning to the big screen in 2026 with The Mandalorian & Grogu

Kosta Andreadis | Apr 7, 2024 11:59 PM CDT

The last Star Wars film to get a theatrical release and debut was 2019's The Rise of Skywalker, the ninth and potentially final release in the canonical mainline Star Wars Episodes. Although it was a financial success, critical and fan response to the film was lukewarm, with the JJ Abram-led trilogy and misfires like Solo: A Star Wars Story led to Disney shelving or postponing its cinematic plans for the franchise.

Star Wars is finally returning to the big screen in 2026 with The Mandalorian & Grogu

The drought is over or will be soon enough, with Disney planning to release The Mandalorian & Grogu on May 22, 2026. The film, set in the Star Wars universe, will be an offshoot of the popular Disney+ show starring Pedro Pascal as the title character. Series creator Jon Favreau (Iron Man) is also set to direct, with Disney and Lucasfilm viewing the project as a safe bet.

The post-George Lucas era of Star Wars has found most of its success on TV thanks to The Mandalorian, Andor, and The Book of Boba Fett. The Mandalorian & Grogu isn't the only Star Wars film in development at Disney (it's the only one with a release date); two more films are also on the way.

Disney+ will crack down on password shares starting in June

Oliver Haslam | Apr 6, 2024 12:45 PM CDT

Disney+ subscribers who share their passwords with other people to avoid them having to buy their own subscription could be in for a shock starting in June. Disney CEO Bob Iger has confirmed that the streamer will seek to achieve growth by forcing households who use shared passwords and accounts to start paying up.

Disney+ will crack down on password shares starting in June

Currently, anyone who has a Disney+ account can share their username and password with anyone and have them stream content for free. The streamer offers profiles that allow people to keep their watch history and progress separate, but following a similar move by Netflix, it will soon prevent customers from sharing their passwords in an attempt to increase income.

In an interview with CNBC, Iger said that it will launch its assault on password sharing in a few countries and a few markets initially in June, but that a more full rollout will begin in September. It hasn't yet been confirmed which countries will be the first on the chopping block, nor exactly when people will have to start paying to watch content, but it's clear that the world of streaming is changing/

The Matrix 5 announced: resurrected, reloaded, refreshed with Drew Goddard directing

Anthony Garreffa | Apr 3, 2024 8:24 PM CDT

The Matrix 5 has just been announced -- and no, this is NOT an April Fool's Day joke -- with Drew Goddard directing, with the Wachowskis not directing a Matrix movie for the first time in franchise history.

The Matrix 5 announced: resurrected, reloaded, refreshed with Drew Goddard directing

Warner Bros. has officially greenlit The Matrix 5, with the only news of the movie being the name of the director and that a Matrix movie will go into production. Goddard directed one of my favorite surprise movies from years ago, Cabin in the Woods, and will direct The Matrix 5.

The Matrix Resurrections was released last year after Lana Wachowski solo-directed the fourth installment in the franchise with returning stars Keanu Reeves and Carrie-Anne Moss. Reeves and Moss play Neo and Trinity, respectively, who could reprise their roles, but I'd like to see Hugo Weaving return -- at least in some form -- as Agent Smith, as he was sorely missed in The Matrix Resurrections.
