For many months now, most of the news surrounding COVID-19 has been quite depressing, but now, Dr. Fauci has some good news for us.
Dr. Anthony Fauci is the nation's leading infectious disease expert, and during a recent interview on the "Today" Show, the infectious disease expert said something that was quite promising. While new COVID-19 variants are popping up around the country, Dr. Fauci highlighted one good thing about the pandemic, and that is that the US seems "to be plateauing".
However, as with most of the good news that comes from public health experts, there is the stark reminder of maintaining public health measures, and metaphorically, keep our foot planted firmly on the gas. Dr. Fauci said, "we cannot ... lose the intensity of being able to use the public health measures to prevent the further spread." Dr. Fauci continued and said that public health measures are paramount now due to the new UK coronavirus variant possibly becoming dominant in the US.
Here's what the infectious disease expert said, "Because if, in fact, the (UK) variant becomes dominant - if the variant that has a greater degree of transmissibility becomes dominant, we're going to be faced with another challenge of a virus that has a more efficient capability of spreading."
