The researchers analyzed data on 1,600 people who reported their symptoms into an app. The researchers then categorized each of the symptoms into six groups that sequence ranging from least to most severe.

The researchers also found that nearly half of the patients who had severe symptoms ended up in hospital, compared to 16% of those who had the least severe symptoms.
