As the coronavirus outbreak continues to ravage the United States, some medical experts have dropped a grave warning about a possible second lockdown to curb the spread.
According to Prof. Richard H. Ebright, the laboratory director at the Waksman Institute of Microbiology and a professor of chemistry and chemical biology at Rutgers University, a second lockdown in the United States is on the verge of being inevitable. Ebright said in an email to TheStreet, "A second U.S. lockdown has become almost inevitable. I expect to see a second lockdown -- tighter and longer than the first lockdown -- in most or all U.S. states in the second half of 2020, possibly as early as August to September 2020."
Ebright's solution to the coronavirus problem is a vaccine, as he says it will be "essential" to break the cycle of lockdowns and resurgences of the virus among communities. Ebright also added when he expects to see a vaccine be developed, stating that he expects to see "at least partly effective" coronavirus vaccine sometime in late 2020 or early 2021.
