Activision has just upped the ante at its upcoming Hearthstone World Championships prize pool for next year, to $1 million, up from the $250,000 from this year's prize pool.
Activision Blizzard held the 2015 tournament at BlizzCon, where $250,000 was given out to 16 of the participants. Next year, the company is upping the prize pool to $1 million, while the competition remains the same size. A further $100,000 prize pool for each of the nine preliminary events will also be up for grabs, with these matches being held in the US, Europe and Asia-Pacific before the World Championship kicks off.
The company has proven that eSports is important to the world, creating a dedicated eSports division led by former ESPN CEO and the former president of Major League Gaming.
