A reboot of the classic 1960's sci-fi serial 'Lost in Space' has been greenlit by Netflix after a bidding war by rival networks, according to Deadline Hollywood. Developed by writers Matt Sazama and Burk Sharpless, the project is the latest reboot of the franchise since the ill-advised 1998 film which featured a charmless Matt LeBlanc as Major Don West, a perfectly cast Gary Oldman as Dr. Zachary Smith and one of the worst CG creatures to ever grace a big budget movie.

The original series, which began broadcasting in 1965 featured the adventures of a family aboard the Jupiter 2 attempting to colonise deep space, before their ship is sabotaged by the evil Dr. Smith in the far-off year 1997 and is well remembered for the Robot's eponymous saying "Danger, Danger Will Robinson!"
