Lucasfilm won't show 'Force Awakens' for critics

'I'm here from the internet to review the film' just won't cut it for The Force Awakens

In a move which echoes the decision to delay 'The Force Awakens' tie-in novel in order to preserve secrecy, Disney and Lucasfilm won't show the eagerly awaited sequel to critics ahead of the films general release mid-next month.

According to The Wrap, this move will prevent 'The Force Awakens' from being able to participate in three lucrative award ceremonies, including the New York Film Critics Circle, the Los Angeles Film Critics Association and the Screen Actors Guild Awards, and won't be shown to any critics before the worldwide premier on December 14th. Distributors that don't hold press screenings for media are generally regarded with raised eyebrows and suspicion that there's a turkey in the wings, but in this case I think its safe to assume that it's simply to close the lid on spoilers for as long as possible.
