Yamaha Motobot is a robot autonomously riding a motorcycle

Yamaha wants to make riding motorcycles safer, starting by creating motorcycle riding robot

Yamaha doesn't just build guitars, it also builds robots riding motorcycles, apparently. That's the case with its "Motobot" which it showed off at the Tokyo Motor Show this week.

The long-term goal is to have Motobot ride an unmodified motorcycle autonomously at over 200 km/h. As you can see in the video above, much progress has been made.

This isn't all fun and games, though: Yamaha says it wants to take what it learns from the process and use it to create "advanced rider safety and rider-support systems" (sorely needed, given the high risk that comes with riding a motorcycle). It will then integrate these into its current business, "as well as [use] them to pioneer new lines of business."
