'Back to the Future' writer peers 30 years into the future

Will we finally have Hoverboards? Bob Gale said 'yes'

To mark the occasion of 'Back to the Future Day', as well as the 30th Birthday celebration of the original 'Back to the Future' film, co-writer and Producer Bob Gale spoke to USA Today to ruminate on what came to pass from the 'Back to the Future Part II' vision, but also what where humanity will be in another 30 years - a time when he'll likely have passed away.

Many of Gale's predictions are common sense - envisaging a time when we'll own less stuff, and the ubiquity of the cloud, sharing economy and virtual reality have streamlined a society, which has been changed by the legalising of "most most recreational drugs" and an uncertain economy. But it's not all bad - he predicts we'll have hoverboard parks and that 2045 the Cubs will finally have won the World Series - and after having come much closer this year, perhaps that's not such an outlandish notion after all.
