Report: Pepsi making its own Android smartphone

It looks like Pepsi, the very same maker of fizzy soft drinks, is about to throw its hat into the ring of branded Android smartphones

Reports indicate that Pepsi, the very same iconic soft drink brand that's responsible for Back to the Future II's Pepsi Perfect, will launch its very own Android smartphone. No really.

Android Headlines spotted the Pepsi P1 smartphone on a Chinese website, revealing a picture of the handset emblazoned with the fizzy soft drink's label. This leak follows recent Pepsi Phone announcements from Chinese social media service Weibo.

Pepsi's P1 Android phone is apparently a $200 handset that sports mid-range specs including a 5.5-inch 1080p HD display, a 1.7GHz MediaTek CPU, 2GB of onboard RAM, and a rather underwhelming 16GB internal memory. The Pepsi Phone will also have a 13MP rear-facing and 5MP front-facing camera, with a 3000mAh battery in place. As for the OS, the P1 is powered by Android 5.0 Lollipop.

Additionally there's no confirmation that the Pepsi Phone will launch outside of China, so it might be a tech oddity that's exclusive to the Orient. It'll be interesting to see if the renown soft drink maker releases official news in the coming days, but for now we'll just have to sip our futuristic Pepsi Perfect canbottles and wait.
