The prize of singing the latest James Bond theme tune has always been a highly coveted award, and one which rockets the artist to a five-decade legacy alongside the likes of musical legends such as Shirley Bassey, Tom Jones, Paul McCartney and Louis Armstrong. Now, the artist behind the theme tune to the upcoming release 'Spectre' has been announced, and unless you're hip or under 25, you might not even know who he is.
Grammy award winning artist Sam Smith has been announced as the voice behind 'Writing's On The Wall' which follows up from Adele's Oscar winning 'Skyfall' in 2012 and will be released later in the month. Smith recorded the song in January this year, giving composer Thomas Newman plenty of time to weave it around the theatrical soundtrack.
This is one of the highlights of my career. I am honoured to finally announce that I will be singing the next Bond theme song.— SAM SMITH (@samsmithworld) September 8, 2015
The 'Spectre' world premiere on October 26th will kick off the film's worldwide release schedule, which hits Australia a little later on November 12th.
