Valve's 2015 championship DOTA 2 'The International' tournament has kicked off on the "main event" stage, starting things off with three matches between LGD Gaming and Team Empire.
There are a total of 16 teams competing in this year's The International with a prize pool of $18 million, with the 16th place receiving $54,000 while 1st place takes home a huge $6.5 million. We should see these figures continue to climb as the days tick by thanks to it being funded through the Compendium, something that offers players in-game content at $10, or $27 each.
25% of all Compendium sales go into the prize pool for The International, which could see the prize pool far exceed $18 million when it wraps up on Saturday, August 8.
