BlackBerry CEO John Chen has found ways to help reinvigorate the company as it looks beyond smartphones - but that doesn't mean the Canadian smartphone manufacturer has given up on phones.
Speaking to Business Insider, Chen promised that BlackBerry's smartphone business unit will be profitable again one day. Even though BlackBerry has worked to help make Google Android and Apple iPhones more secure, nothing beats the security offered by a BlackBerry.
"I can only make iPhone so much more secure, but if I can't make it as secure as a BlackBerry device," Chen told Business Insider. "If you look at the US Army, they're still rolling out all BlackBerry. If I tell them there are no more phones, I lose that account. The question is how do you make phones profitable at the volume those people represent?"
BlackBerry has released several new smartphones in recent years - and while some reviews were positive - the company still has virtually zero phone market share.
