Discover card members will be able to use the Apple Pay mobile payments service later this year, the company has confirmed. iPhone 6, iPhone 6 Plus and Apple Watch owners can already use Apple Pay with Visa, American Express and MasterCard.
"As the mobile payments landscape matures, Discover remains committed to giving card members secure options for using their cards and mobile services," said Diane Offereins, president of payment services at Discover. "Discover's focus on simplicity and value for our card members aligns well with the way Apple Pay makes purchases easy and convenient."
Apple is in a continued fight to win over retailers, with credit card companies and banks already jumping on the Apple Pay bandwagon. The company will eventually see itself competing against Samsung Pay, Android Pay, and the Merchant Customer Exchange, as more companies enter the mobile payment ecosystem.
Meanwhile, it looks like security is the most important feature when it comes to mobile payments - and other emerging payment systems - according to a recent survey from 451 Research.
