The Spice Girls top poll of UK's catchiest song

It might have been released 18 years ago, but it seems the hit song is no "Wannabe"

Yeah, I admit it. I have a bit of a soft spot for 'The Spice Girls'. Sure - you can laugh. But it seems I'm not an isolated example. According to Time magazine, Dr. John Ashley Burgoyne, a computational musicologist from the University of Amsterdam, set up an online game called Hooked on Music , which aggregated results from 12,000 participants on how quickly they could recognize a song. Their answer? The 1996 track "Wannabe", from the Spice Girls.

The Spice Girls debut album 'Spice', which was first released 18 years ago today (has it really been that long?) launched 4 hit singles and sold over 30 million copies worldwide, making it one of the biggest selling albums of all time.

Lou Bega's "Mambo No 5" came in a close second, followed by Survivor's "Eye of the Tiger", otherwise known as the unofficial 'Rocky' theme.
