Activision may have opened up its bank accounts to the tune of $500 million for Destiny, but how has the first week paid off? The company has sold over $325 million worth of copies of the console exclusive game, with these figures coming from Chart-Track.
Activision chief executive, Eric Hirshberg has said: "Destiny fans played more than 100 million hours of the game in the first week. That's on par with the engagement levels of our most popular Call of Duty games, which obviously is an industry leader". Activision has shipped over $500 million worth to retailers and vendors across the world, so we should expect some even bigger numbers in the coming months.
Bungie and Activision signed a ten-year deal for Destiny, so we can only expect this to be the start of a very big new IP. Although Destiny has received mixed reception so far, there's no denying that it is a massive new launch right now. Have you played it? What do you think?
