When Apple announced the two new iPhone 6 smartphones, the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus, they included NFC which most, myself included, presumed it would 'just work' with any other NFC-enabled devices. Well, we were all wrong - the NFC on the new iPhone is locked purely to Apple Pay.
Apple has confirmed the news directly with The Verge, with Apple's new mobile payments platform being the sole receiver of the NFC technology on the new iPhone. There are plenty of NFC-powered speakers and other devices that simply won't work with the new iPhone, with The Verge saying that "there's still hope for the future though".
I don't think we'll see support for NFC opened up to other devices, and even if we do, the question remains: why is Apple locking down NFC to Apply Pay, there's absolutely no reason for them to do this. What do you think?
