The Sony PlayStation 4 is a more powerful game console and has outsold the Microsoft Xbox One worldwide since both consoles launched in late 2013. However, developers are supporting both platforms as the console war is far from over - and 4A Games, makers of the Metro video game series, says Microsoft is increasingly improving its efforts.
The Xbox One's GPU is able to perform well, but sometimes only if the CPU is idle - and the CPU won't perform well only if the GPU is idle, as Microsoft is facing ESRAM problems.
"Microsoft is not sleeping, really," said Oles Shishkovstov, 4A Games CTO, in an interview with GameSpot. "Each [Xbox Development Kit] that has been released both before and after the Xbox One launch has brought faster and faster draw-calls to the table. They added tons of features just to work around limitations of the DX11 API model. They even made a DX12/GNM style do-it-yourself API available - although we didn't ship with it on Redux due to time constraints."
4A Games has made Metro Redux available for the PC, PS4 and Xbox One game consoles - and seems pleased with Microsoft's continued improvements.
