The original film was set in 2019 LA with androids running wild and Ford's character was in charge of bringing them to justice. The plot for the remake is a very closely guarded secret and is expected to take place decades after the original.

It's unclear is Ford will play the main character in the new film or if he will be only in it as a cameo. That is assuming he takes the role. Ford has been reprising old roles of late and will be coming back to the screen as Han Solo in the next Star Wars film.
