- IDF Spring 04: Day 1: Opening Keynote
The folks over at Hexus have been keeping us informed of the happenings at Day 1 of this years "Intel Developer Forum". Some very interesting and eye-opening comments were made from Craig 'Dr. T' Barrett, including an insight to the digital transformation we are all a part of, plus a host of other goodies. A most noteworthy mention is with regard to Intel's upcoming 64bit line of Xeon Prescott processors of which we will hopefully see before the end of this year. Here's a highlighted quote which will undoubtedly excite many of you:-
From the Q and A with Barrett at the end he re-iterated that they have the differnet micro-architecture within the core. But the software support will mean it will run on both. We believe that it will be a pure addressing thing. But until Intel release the part later this year we will not be able to establish if its the AMD instruction set which Intel have IP rights on. From what he said we believe this to be the case, meaning it runs the A64 Windows XP version.
If you head over to Hexus's front page, they've been filling us in on all the extra highlights, including a seperate article with an exclusive sneak preview (inc. photos and Sandra benchies!) of a DFI LanParty DDR2 Alderwood configuration, the full scoop on that one here. Nice work Hexus, keep it coming.
