If you own an Apple iPhone 5 and it has a sleep/wake button that has stopped working, Apple has announced a new repair program that will grab your attention. Apple has announced that it will be repairing some devices with this issue free of charge.
Apple hasn't said how many devices this issue affects and has only stated the problem affects a "small percentage" of the iPhone 5 smartphones out there. The program launched this week in the US and will go live in other countries on May 2.
To get your device fixed, you have to go to the Apple link in the source below and enter the serial number of your phone. Apple will then verify your device and fix the phone once that process is done. The company isn't saying it will fix all phones. The verification process would seem to indicate Apple knows a range of serial numbers for affected devices. If your device qualifies, it could take 4-6 days to get it fixed once you drop it off at a local facility.
