- Creative's Decoder Enables Home Theater Quality Sound

Tom's Hardware have today checked out Creative's new DDTS-100 standalone decoder box, used in conjunction with existing multi-channel speakers to provide DTS/DD decoding for a fully featured home theater setup in your lounge, and comes with an excellent price tag too.

Do you have high-quality, 5.1 or above PC speakers? Do you have a stand-alone DVD player and a good TV set? Then why spend a fortune on a home theater audio system when your high-quality computer speakers will be more than adequate? Where sound is concerned, convergence between the living-room and the computer room seems to be the obvious move. That's what the manufacturers think too and Logitech, Altec Lansing and Creative Labs all offered hybrid speakers equipped with decoders in the past.

- The Cardboard PC

Got a bunch of old hardware and not sure what to do with it? Is it enough to get a complete system together but you've no spare case for the job? Norge at Short-Media has a cost-free answer to that!

The idea occurred when I came downstairs and saw my roommate mmonnin getting ready to beat down yet another defenseless computer. Even though it was basically a piece of junk, I thought that I might as well try to save it. After some work, I was able to save the more important parts. Since the motherboard was bad, my other roommate Aranyic gave me one of his old ones and I got an idea.

I already had enough parts to build a functioning computer, so why not do it? The only thing I was missing was a case. That is when a cardboard box caught my eye. Yes, a cardboard box. What better place to put an old computer than in a box? My mission was clear. I was going to make the most kick-ass cardboard box ghetto computer the world had ever seen.
