- Nostromo Speedpad N50

The guys over at Red & Blackness Mods have tried out a rather interesting gaming device suited mainly for the FPS genre. You control it with your left hand whilst keeping your right hand free for mouse movement etc. This would probably take some getting used to, but may make your gaming experience much easier / more enjoyable in the long run.

Today we are having a look at something for gamers. It's the Nostromo speedpad N50. This is supposed to be a unit that will help you play FPS games easier. You control the whole unit with your left hand which leaves your right hand for your mouse. It seems to have all the buttons for gaming so it might even help you playe easier. We are going to have a closer look how it fits in your hands and what functions it does fulfill. Stay tuned.

- Current 8x DVD+R drives might write dual layer discs!

According to a Philips Spokesman over at TWICE the other day, not only will dual layer drives become available within the first half of 2004, but it has also been mentioned that current 8x single layer DVD+R drives can feasibly do dual layer 8.5gb recordings with the right form of media (currently in prototype status). More info on this over at CDFreaks.

Earlier we reported that a Philips spokesman reported on another site that current 8x DVD+R recorders could possibly be upgraded to support dual layer discs with a firmware update. Although it seemed to good to be true, it seems indeed possible with the right equipment and specially developed media but will not likely be used in consumer drives. Philips responded to the story and explained what the real story is. Mr Driessen of Philips' optical storage unit could tell us the following:
