Android set to get Aereo's internet-based TV service in September
The popular Internet-based television service Aereo will be headed to Android devices next month if a report from the International Business Times is correct in which Aereo's CEO Chet Kanojia confirmed the pending Android launch. By expanding to Android, Aereo would greatly expand its reach to US viewers as android has a significantly larger market share that Apple's iOS.
Aereo works by using an array of small antennas to capture broadcast TV signals and then stream them for the Internet to its users. Of course as you can imagine, this business model has not done much to please the broadcast TV industry. Nevertheless Aereo has managed to become successful in New York City, Boston and Atlanta, and is expected to be a hit in Miami, Houston, Dallas and Chicago when it launches in those markets later next month.
