Flash Memory Summit 2013 - Derek Dicker, the Vice President of marketing at PMC-Sierra, stopped by to discuss their latest products and their Flash Memory Summit debut. One of the most surprising aspects of PMC's debut at FMS was the introduction of a new SAS SSD controller, which Derek explains in detail during the interview.

PMC-Sierra is moving quickly with the recent acquisition of IDT. IDT drove the adoption of NVMe and has working silicon readily available for PMC, speeding the time to market for PMC.

The addition of their own SAS SSD controller to the existing RAID, HBA and expander product lines provides them a cohesive portfolio built around SAS products.

The quest for benchmark world records led Paul further and further down the overclocking rabbit hole. SSDs and RAID controllers were a big part of that equation, allowing him to push performance to the bleeding edge. Finding the fastest and most extreme storage solutions led to experience with a myriad of high-end enterprise devices. Soon testing SSDs and Enterprise RAID controllers at the limits of their performance became Paul's real passion, one that is carried out through writing articles and reviews.
