Flash Memory Summit 2013 - LSI's Kent Smith stopped by the TweakTown booth at this week's Flash Memory Summit to discuss a new piece of technology that will be part of the company's third-generation SandForce product.

Named SHIELD Advanced Error Correction, the technology is made up of Hard Decision LDPC and Soft Decision LDPC to form a more advanced error correction solution.

Smith went on to discuss LSI's decision to stay away from DRAM caching in its products, and how this decision affects such smaller packages as M.2. Smith finished up the interview by elaborating on LSI's ongoing initiative to provide lower power consuming controller chips.
