Sony are on track to becoming a true competitor for Apple and Samsung, and sure while it might not be right away, they're laying down their foundation as we speak for the wars they'll wage in the years to come.

Sony have hit their developer portal with a new download for the complete open-sourced software for their bigger-than-life Xperia Z Ultra smartphone. The device isn't even available yet - not until September 12 - but the Japanese company are releasing a full archive of the software for the C6802 HSPA+ model for download.

If you're a developer or someone who likes to play around with this type of thing, you've got a head start on development before the Xperia Z Ultra launches next month. Head over here for the download.
