Rumor: Next iPad to be 33 percent lighter, thinner thanks to new touchscreen technology
Another day, another Apple rumor. This latest rumor says that the upcoming iPad will be around 33 percent lighter and also thinner thanks to new touchscreen technology. The latest rumor comes courtesy of Digitimes who cites upstream supply chain insiders. Trial production is said to start in July.
The iPad is said to be losing the weight by switching to a new GF Ditto (GF2) design. The current iPad makes use of a G/G touch structure that requires two panes of glass. The new DF2 technology only requires one layer of glass, which reduces the weight and thickness of the display assembly.
This will reportedly slim the iPad by around two-tenths of a millimeter, a rather small amount. The bezel is also reportedly slimmer than previous models. As with all rumors, take this with a grain of salt.
