A freshly obtained roadmap slide from Intel indicates that a succeeding family of SSDs to the SSD 510 series is already in the works and slated to start rolling out within the next quarter.

Intel codenames these new high-end client SSDs "Cherryville", with the formal series name taking a jump to "SSD 520". The primary changes when comparing to the SSD 510 series is most notably the broader range of capacity size models in the lineup. Where the SSD 510 series was restricted to just two capacities of 120 and 250GB, the SSD 520 series gives a complete range of options including 60 GB, 120 GB, 160 GB, 240 GB, and 480 GB.

Being client positioned models, performance is unsurprisingly superior as well, with numbers of 530MB/sec read and 490MB/sec write rates being mentioned, as well as up to 40,000 IOPS read and 45,000 IOPS write. It is expected these figures will vary between models in the lineup and we won't know specifics until the final specs roll out.

The SSD 520 series are 2.5-inch, SATA 6Gb/s based drives using 25nm MLC NAND flash memory with support for TRIM, SMART, NCQ, and ACS-2 compliance.
