It's not too often that you see a launch date move to an earlier time instead of later, but Apple has surprised us by making this happened. The Mac App Store has been officially given a launch date of Thursday, January 6th; just in time for CES!
The Mac App Store, hailed as one of the big features of the upcoming Lion OS X refresh, hopes to bring the ease of browsing the original App Store to the OS X platform. Syncing apps across various machines and streamlining the app discovery and installation processes are a few of the goals of the new Mac App Store. Another bonus to the Mac App store is that developers can offer upgrades and variable pricing on their own storefronts.
