No more rumor mongering when it comes to Motorola's new flagship handset, the Droid 2; it has been made official by Verizon today and will be available online tomorrow. The R2-D2 Star Wars edition was confirmed as well and will be available in limited quantities.
The Droid 2, with a slide out keyboard, 5mp camera, and 8GB of onboard memory and an 8GB SD card included, will ship running Android 2.2, Flash 10.1, and have Swype preinstalled. Pricing is planned to be $199.99 USD with a 2 year contract for the Droid 2, although pricing for the Star Wars edition has not yet been released. Verizon is also allowing any customer who has a contract that will be up before the end of the year to upgrade to any other smartphone, including the Droid 2, without a penalty and at the advertised price.
