Site Problems Cured!

Site Problems Cured! news post from TweakTown's online news computing and technology content pages

By Cameron Wilmot on Apr 9, 2002 02:03 am CDT - 2 mins, 2 secs reading time

The past 12 hours has been a bit tense around here, allow me to explain. After waking up this morning I discovered the site was not responding and when it did was bringing up some rather strange MySQL database errors - Thanks to all the people who sent us an e-mail letting us know. We are not positive if it was a hack attempt or if it was due to the fact the site traffic was excessively high at the time, I think the latter would be most likely. For the past three months we have been bursting at an average of 1mbps, this is resulting in almost a half a terabyte (500gb!) of bandwidth being sent out each month, although at the same time doing wonderful things for our traffic figures. We have a second server in place now which hosts our images and downloads as well as our forums, we may look at investing in a third server soon if the need arises.

The guys at Elite (our hosting provider) were able to fix the problem by making a few changes to the server. Three hours later of testing and trying to figure out what the problem was, it has now been cured. Over the next few days we will be updating server software to the latest versions to avoid any problems in the future, which will mean a bit more down time. Trust me, I hate the down time as much as you do. There are only a couple little bugs which need ironing out now, we'll have them fixed soon enough. I'd like to thank the guys at Elite, they were up past 2am working on the server, that's what support is all about if you ask me.

While I'm at it, you'll be starting to notice more and more changes around here in the next few weeks, changes I am positive you'll all love. Yesterday we implemented a Printer Friendly feature to all reviews, soon it'll be ready for articles and guides. We also added a new feature yesterday, you'll notice above authors faces of new content are pictured in the "New Content @ TweakTown" section. I'll keep you posted as planned features are added to the site. If you have any other ideas for the site, don't hesitate to contact us and we'll seriously take them into consideration. Take care everyone and thanks for your continued support, we are definitely on a good thing here!
