According to a couple of unidentified sources in the know, Amazon is planning on releasing a new version of their Kindle e-reader sometime in August. While the details are sketchy due to the nature of the info, the device is said to be thinner, have a sharper picture, and a faster interface with quicker page turn times. A touchscreen and color LCD are not in the cards for this device, as previous reports say that these options for the Kindle are still in the lab and not yet ready for prime time.
With a ton of new tablets on the horizon and the iPad now a global phenomenon with Friday's international launch, the Kindle may not be bringing enough to the table with the newest iteration of their popular e-reader if these specs are to be believed. Then again, with a competitive price point and a sleeker design it could be a surprise contender for those that don't need all the flash of the high end tablet products. Hopefully more official details will shed more light.
