Mike Magee from the one and only Inquirer has a storying running that suggests a massive percentage of the workforce in Taiwan want to leave for the mainland, as reported in the People's Daily. Having been to Taipei last year, I was having a bit of trouble believing this as for the amount of fun and hospitality which I was given for the week I was there... but then again it could very well be a different situation if you were working and living on the Island.
I asked Dave Mao from DFI in Taipei what he thought of the story, and he had the following to say...
"People's Daily seems to be 1/2 news, 1/2 propoganda. In this case, this story falls clearly into the latter category. Let's apply some critical thinking skills here. 17.2% of survey respondents rejected the idea of working on the Mainland. All that means is that 82.8% respondents did not say they absolutely would not work on the Mainland.... I would love to work for DFI in China making the highest quality performance motherboards at affordable prices for YOU, our loyal customer."You come to your own conclusion.
