Last week HP announced that it was expanding the recall to cover another 54,000 units in multiple notebook lines from HP and Compaq. The recall this time is also due to potential overheating and fire hazard.
HP says that since it issued the recall in 2009 there have been 38 more reports of batteries overheating and rupturing. These resulted in 11 instances of personal injury and 31 instances of property damage. Machines using the batteries were sold from August 2007 to July 2008.
