Let's face it; there are few things worse for the modern man than losing your remote control. Anyone with kids understands the frantic search that ensues after someone takes the remote off to be used as a cooking utensil in their toy kitchen, right? If you are one of the lucky Verizon FiOS subscribers with the right smartphone, you can have a backup remote right on your device.

Verizon has announced new software that will run on the Motorola DROID and the HTC Imagio offering full remote control functionality. The software gives control of all functions of the DVR right from the mobile phone.

Features include My Remote, My Photos, My Favorites, and Tele-TV Mute. The photos feature lets you upload photos from your phone to the TV. The favorites feature lets you import lists of your favorite channels. The TV Mute feature will mute the TV automatically when a call comes in on your mobile.
