Intel has been doing well with its Core i7 processors and the last new part in the line was the Core i7-960 that was rolled out a few months back for the X58 platform. Rumors are surfacing that Intel is getting set to add another new part to the i7 line.

The new processor is said to be the Core i7-880 and it is rumored to be landing in Q2 running at 3.06GHz. The top speed that the processor cores will operate at is 3.73GHz with Turbo Boost enabled. The chip is expected to have Hyper-Threading, a 95W thermal envelope, DDR3-1333 support, and 8MB of cache.

The expectation is that the new chip will sell for around the same $562 mark that the Core i7-906 sells at. Prices aren't expected to drop for the older part since there isn't price pressure from AMD in the category.
