VIA have announced the latest edition to their P4X266A based motherboard range, the P4PA. This new board sports ATA133 and USB 2.0 support among many other cool features. Here is the full PR:

Taipei, Taiwan, 6 February 2002 - VIA Technologies, Inc, a leading innovator and developer of core logic chipsets, microprocessors, and multimedia, networking and communications chips, today announced the VIA P4PA Mainboard, the latest addition to its range of high performance motherboards for the Intel® Pentium® 4 processor.

In addition to offering support for high bandwidth DDR266 SDRAM, the VIA P4PA mainboard boasts a staggering array of the most advanced features the industry currently has to offer, such as USB 2.0 connectivity and Ultra ATA/133 support. With transfer rates of 480Mbps, USB 2.0 is 40 times faster than the current USB 1.1 interface, satisfying the needs of even the most bandwidth hungry peripheral devices, such as digital cameras, web cams, and MP3 players, and is fully backwards compatible with the USB 1.1 standard, allowing users to plug in their current USB devices.

Ultra ATA/133 builds upon previous generations of ATA/100 technology, and offers up to 133MB/s of bandwidth to help reduce the hard drive performance bottleneck that exists on today's high-end PCs, workstations and servers and speed up even the most demanding applications. Ultra ATA/133 provides all the headroom necessary for future generation 7,200RPM and 10,000RPM drives and multi-drive RAID arrays, while allowing the flexibility to scale down to more value oriented desktop PCs. It supports all Ultra-DMA 33/66/100/133 devices including HDDs, CD-ROMS and DVD-ROMs as well as new generation BigDrive™ HDDs that break the previous 137GB limit on hard drive capacity and enable an exponential increase in data storage capacity for personal computing devices.

"The P4PA mainboard sets a new benchmark for high end mainboards," commented Richard Brown, Director of Marketing at VIA Technologies, Inc. "With the combination of cutting edge features like Ultra ATA/133 and USB 2.0, and the proven performance of the VIA Apollo P4X266A chipset, it is the ultimate feature packed platform for high performance desktop PCs, servers and workstations based on the Intel Pentium 4 processor."

About the VIA P4PA Mainboard

Based around the acclaimed architecture of the VIA Apollo P4X266A chipset, the VIA P4PA mainboard supports a complete range of 478-pin Intel® Pentium® 4 processors running at speeds of up to 2.2GHz and beyond. Supporting up to 3GB of DDR266 SDRAM via three DIMM sockets, memory performance benefits from data transfers rates of an incredible 2.1GB per second. Overall system performance is further enhanced by the VIA Apollo P4X266A's high speed V-Link bus, which doubles communication bandwidth between the chipset's North and South Bridges to 266MB per second.

Additional high-end features of the VIA P4PA mainboard include onboard LAN via a RT8100 Fast Ethernet controller, and onboard AC'97 courtesy of the VIA VT1612 AC'97 codec. The ATX format board also offers unsurpassed scalability options, with six PCI slots and an AGP 4X port provided, and comes equipped with a full set of I/O ports as well as Hardware Monitoring support.
