AMD TWKR sells for $11,600 on Ebay

Money goes to Charity

Wow, you know even after all my years working in IT and working with the technical press I can still be shocked.

It seems that someone was willing to pay $11,600 US Dollars for an AMD TWKR 42 CPU. This number simply astonishes me, I can't fathom it.

As the story is told some folks at AMD put one of these highly overclockable CPUs up on Ebay for a charity based auction. The bidding started at a meager $1. After 80 Bidders and several days the bid skyrockets up to the $11,600 mark.

100% of that $11,600 will go to a charity called Family Eldercare. This last fact does make this much better in my opinion as it at least adds some credibility to the auction. If it was for sheer profit or for marketing I would be very disappointed in AMD.

As it stands I think this is probably the highest price ever paid for a commercially available CPU. If someone knows of a time when more was paid let me know.
