iPhone 3G S reservations over 200,000?

well maybe, but the math sounds off

According to Engadget, well actually a source at Apple, the number of reservations for Apple's iPhone 3G S is around 200,000 with four days to go before they are officially available in the stores.

The method behind this number is a bit sketchy though, the unnamed source says that they estimate around 800 reservations per store as the average for the US, and then they multiplied that number by the number of stores.

I don't know about you but that is some pretty thin math there.

In other news, an anonymous Apple Store employee has done some homework and tallied up average reservation numbers at other US stores -- he estimates about 800 people on average are on the reservation list per Apple Store (ranging from a couple hundred to well over a thousand), which amounts to about 200,000 reservations as of now, a number he believes could double before launch. There's no way to back that number up, but it sounds fairly rational.
