ATi's Stream Enters the GPGPU Fray

Yesterday was a day for AMD announcements, Shanghai launched, OEM partners announced support and AMD/ATi talked about Stream.

In the midst of all of this I missed out on a very good read from Charlie Demerjian about how AMD/ATi are pushing Stream to the consumer. Of late Charlie has taken a very hard line on nVidia and their practices, well this article is not much different but is very enlightening on the GPGPU war to come.

Shuttle were once a name we saw pop up nearly every day when they stormed the SFF market with their XPC lineup of barebone systems; neat little compact units which still allowed for solid performance, making them an attractive LAN gaming box or HTPC.

Intel was not the only one to report bad news as Lenovo, Cisco, and National Semiconductor have also posted up gloomy forecasts.

AMD has launched its much anticipated 45nm Quad Core Opterons. These new CPUs have been in the news quite a bit lately with the launch of Intel's Nehalem and will be in the tech media's sights to see if AMD's performance claims will meet with reality.

After the botched launch of Barcelona, Shanghai needs to be a winner out of the gate to regain market confidence. AMD has put a considerable amount of pre-launch effort into this (more than their usual Xenophobic tactics allow) and are touting some high performance and efficiency numbers.
