Foxconn leaving China?
Foxconn has been in the news a lot lately after ten workers at one of its Chinese factories where Apple products are built have killed themselves this year. Some blame harsh working conditions at the plant for the suicides.
Foxconn has given the workers pay raises and opened its typically closed plants up to outside regulators and journalists to prove that working conditions are good. A new rumor is floating around that claims Foxconn is ready to close its Chinese operations and move the plants to other countries.
The rumor points to an unmanned facility in Taiwan and to plants in India. If the rumor proves to be true, as many as 800,000 workers in the Foxconn Chinese plant could be out of a job.

iPhone 3GS buyers can upgrade to iPhone 4; here's how:
So you thought to yourself, "I don't need to spend all that money on an iPhone 4; I'll be totally happy just getting the iPhone 3GS." Then you had a friend that got one, saw it, and instantly fell in love and cursed your wretched decision to save a few bucks, a few days, and not wait for the new one. Well you just may be in luck. You can either get some cash back for your purchase or turn your phone in for credit towards an iPhone 4.
Modmyi got a hold of a memo that states that anyone who purchased an iPhone 3GS between May 7th and June 7th 2010 can return their 3GS at the original price before the recent drop and get full credit towards an iPhone 4, of course paying the difference. Those who wish to keep their 3GS can get some cash back instead; May 7th-May 14th purchasers have to get their requests in by June 14th; after May 14th to June 7th have 30 days from their original purchase to get $50 back if they bought a 16gb 3GS, and $100 for for the 32gb version.
Those opting for the trade in for th iPhone 4 will have to pre-order it after turning in their 3GS from the original place of purchase, with their shiny new phones expected on June 21st.

ADATA S501 World's Fastest SSD Could Be 1.8"
COMPUTEX Taipei 2010 - You might remember that we tested what may end up being the world's fastest SSD at ADATA's Computex booth last week. The next day we went back and picked the drive up to do some additional testing on Cameron's X58A-UD7 and set his system up to the same specs as my dual test systems based on the same motherboard and Intel 975 EE processor. AVADirect supplied Cameron's and my Intel 975 EE procs.
The ADATA S501 128GB in engineering sample form is actually a 1.8" drive that rests in a 2.5" case. No word if a true 1.8" drive will be available but with the S501 hitting just over 400MB/s read speeds wouldn't it be something to have the world's fastest drive selling in the 1.8" form factor.
With my camera packed and ready for the 24 hour flight home I broke out the scanner to take the images above. Here you can see the 2.5" case and the 1.8" drive.

Patriot's Artemis II: 56 Inferno SSDs Burn the Benchmarks Down
COMPUTEX Taipei 2010 - What do you call 56 SandForce 200GB SSDs, 7 LSI SATA / SAS RAID Controllers, 1 Supermicro dual Xeon Workstation board, dual Antec 1000 watt PSUs and a couple of hours spent setting it all up? Patriot is calling the setup Artemis II but I think we all agree that anything other than bad ass is an understatement.
It might not be the most conventional SSD array but it is the most impressive found at Computex this year.
Seven LSI 9260-8i controllers like the one we use here at the office for testing SAS drives fill the Supermicro workstation board. Each controller is capable to running 8 drives without using an expander. Patriot also managed to shove 12, 4GB sticks of memory in the board.

OCZ Technology Prepares for an Assault on the Enterprise
COMPUTEX Taipei 2010 - OCZ is currently the undisputed leader of desktop solid state drives but the company isn't stopping there. At Computex 2010 several enterprise and prosumer products were on display leading us to believe that OCZ will be looking to make a push in these markets.
The most innovative of the products shown is this little black box with an undisclosed SSD or array of SSDs inside. The box connects to a controller card through a propriety link, the cable is a standard mini SAS but signal sent by the card and SSD are not compatible with standard SAS controllers. The read speeds are said to be 930MB/s, write speeds of 790MB/s with 75,000 IOPS (4K Random). I will take the 4 channel controller and four black boxes plz.
OCZ has been dabbling in the PCIe SSD market and a pair of new products looks like they may take off with power users and prosumers. Arriving just in time for the show was the Revo (on the right). I can't wait for these to start making the rounds since they should come in at a much lower cost than the other PCIe SSDs we have looked at.
