Cooling your Summer down with USB fan

Cameron Wilmot | Connectivity & Cloud | May 30, 2008 12:53 AM CDT

Arctic Cooling has today unveiled a product which all Northern Hemisphere based folks probably shouldn't do without now that the summer heat is starting to well and truly kick in.

ARCTIC Breeze allows you to ride with the wind (oops, that is MSI's line) play with the wind. This simple yet genius device takes one of Arctic Cooling's 92mm cooling fans and essentially puts it on a stick with some USB cabling to power it. You can switch the fan speed between 1200 and 2000 RPM and it is supposedly quiet at both speeds.

It will be on sale from next month and set you back around $16 USD - please send one to me, Taipei humidity is shocking.

Ben Gourlay | Celebrities & Entertainment | May 29, 2008 2:43 AM CDT

Paramount Home Entertainment U.S. have announced full details for the Blu-ray edition of Transformers. The 2 disc release, which hits US stores on September 2nd, will be a mirror of the previously released HD-DVD disc, but adds on an uncompressed PCM audio track (instead of the lossy Dolby Digital soundtrack on the HD-DVD) and a new video encode, supervised by Michael Bay himself, which takes full advantage of the higher bitrates available on Blu-ray. Paramount Home Entertainment Australia have yet to make a similar announcement, but they would be crazy to miss the Christmas window.

ABIT rumored to quit mobo business

Cameron Wilmot | Business, Financial & Legal | May 27, 2008 9:09 AM CDT

Hot off the press, Digitimes is reporting that ABIT may begin phasing out its motherboard business after evaluating the success of its forthcoming Intel 4 series lineup of motherboard products. ABIT shipped three million motherboards in 2007 and while that may sound like a large number, it's a mere fraction of what the likes of ASUS and GIGABYTE ship. It had a goal of shipping six million motherboards this year but has since reduced its forecast.

ABIT was once the hottest motherboard an enthusiast could own often providing the best overclocking results and performance numbers. After some financial issues back a few years ago, ABIT almost sunk but was gobbled up by Universal Scientific Industrial (USI). Unfortunately at around the same time, most of ABIT's key staff were leaving the company or had already left and things never really got better for the once motherboard king.

While the report does mention that ABIT is maintaining it does not know anything about the speculation and will continue to develop motherboard products, it wouldn't be a surprise. ABIT's current batch of new motherboards haven't been that exciting and we even saw a motherboard released recently which didn't even include solid capacitors. ABIT used to be the one setting the trends in motherboard technology but now it is clear they are falling behind the eight ball.
